Game Journal: June 2025
A list of games I played on my steam deck or switch 2 in June with 2-3 line comments.
Every month I collate the games I played that are new to me, or I haven’t played in a long time and revisited. June was the release of the new Switch 2, so this list includes games played on Steam deck and Switch 2. Did you get a Switch 2 this month?
Death’s door
Reaping souls of the dead and punching a clock might get monotonous but it's honest work for a Crow. The job gets lively when your assigned soul is stolen and you must track down a desperate thief to a realm untouched by death - where creatures grow far past their expiry.
I loved this game. It was difficult and you can read about my review here, but the art style, game play, story and importantly music just pulled it all together and this will be in my top games for a very long time I suspect.

Mario Kart World
Hit the open road with Mario and friends! Zip along courses on a vast world where everything is connected. Race around grassy plains, bustling cities, wide-open waters, big ol' volcanos, and more...plus everything in-between. Exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2!
I pre-ordered a Switch 2 with the Mario Kart World Bundle and have been enjoying playing this a lot. Mostly single player and a bit of multi player. I like the new tracks and tricks, Knockout race is fun and while a but empty I like just being able to drive around the open world too. It’s been a great launch title for me and I think it is a great game to have to play for 15-20 mins.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild
No kingdom. No memories. After a 100-year slumber, Link wakes up alone in a world he no longer remembers. Now the legendary hero must explore a vast and dangerous land and regain his memories before Hyrule is lost forever.
I am giving this another go on the Switch 2. In theory I should love this game. I think the beginning and learning curve is a bit high. I wish there was an easy mode, and that I would have more health. :) But I will try and may write a bit of a diary about this experience as this will be a long game. The first post is here.
Bzzzt
Become a tiny ZX8000 robot and begin your journey through a beautiful, pixel-art world inspired by games iconic to the platformer genre. Follow a cute story, upgrade your skills, beat challenging levels, and compete with other players for the fastest speedrun!
I added this game in a sale a while back. It is a side scrolling pixel art platformer. So far I like that each level is short-ish and you can just play a couple of levels and then put it back down in between playing the big RPG Zelda. It does have a little story, but the focus is definitely the platforming challenges and doing these pretty fast, while collecting screws. I didn't realise how short this game is though. I completed the story part and a run through of all levels within 1.5 hours. This will be my review really as there isn’t much else to say. Short pixel art platformer which has been fun to play.
Bionic Bay
A scientist uses a unique teleportation instrument to escape an ancient biomechanical world filled with imaginative technology, deadly traps, and hidden secrets.
I was lucky to win a copy through
Discord channel! This has been on my wishlist, due to the art style and colour scheme and it is not disappointing. It is a side scroller with puzzle mechanics. I have only unlocked the first ability but I think there will be more, making this a bit more of a sci-fi Limbo type game. I am enjoying it so far. What did you play in June? Any new games? Any games on the new Switch 2?
Bionic Bay looks nice!!
I’ve been playing Octopath Traveler 2 on Switch and honestly getting a bit bored of it! But determined to finish. I like the art, the music, the different storylines, it’s just going on a bit too long for me
