I love that more and more people are getting back into retro gaming thru modern gaming handhelds. I used my ROG Ally to emulate NES, N64 and PS2. Then I got tired of lugging that thing around so just bought one of those retro game controllers for my phone (a Gamesir X2s). It is so convenient when paired up with RetroArch or Delta.
Oh I hadn’t even looked at emulation on mobile phones! That’s very clever! There is something so nostalgic about playing the old games. It goes to a comfort space in my brain 😂💚
Congratulations on figuring it out! Having the determination, courage, and (let's be real) patience to tinker and follow guides is such an underrated part of getting technology of any kind to play nice.

There's a beauty in the fact that emulation got so accessible and easier to understand in these last few years. Be it a Steam Deck, a cellphone or a handheld, the options are wider than ever before.
That's so cool! The emulation community is spectacular and so clever. I am really grateful for what they do. Yeah in essence the steam deck is great for this sort of thing. I do sometimes wonder how the retro console market is so saturated. There seem to be multiple devices coming out all the time while this sorts a lot of things.
Some of those devices, like Retroid and Ambernic, started long before Steam Deck and have a pretty strong fan base. Also, if you already have a console or PC and just want to retro game on the go those other devices offer a wonderful experience for a fraction of the price.
That's fair! I didn't think of it like that. Yeah my little vertical handheld for gameboy type games is great and in the sale I managed to get it for equivalent of around £40. It is a fascinating space from a software and hardware perspective with lots to learn for me.
I used a couple of emulators for the 16-bit generation, and save states are definitely useful. I would be interested to know how a Wii emulator actually works with a different control scheme.
Kind of related, but I find the technical idea of an emulator fascinating. I understand some of the theory of how to pretend software is actually something else, but it still looks magical. One day, using my mythical free time, I might look at how to program a basic emulator, like a NES or Game Boy.
Oh wow! I have this bizarre memory from this summer that I saw it for the switch in Portugal but that seems to have been a fever dream. I can’t find any evidence and I deleted the pic months ago lol. It was probably just the remaster lol
I've been loving using emudeck recently, it has been really satisfying getting good at some of my all time favourite games. It was a bit fiddly setting them all up, but I'm pleased I pushed past the sometimes frustrating set up stage. Also surprised that 7 year old me completed Donkey Kong on the Snes as I'm struggling... 🤣
Oh my gosh don't get me started! I've deliberately not got Beauty and the Beast emulated from the Snes because it was phenomenally difficult I know I would suffer all over again!
Well, that would be a problem :D I created my backlog database from the games I own digitally and physically on the Switch. I don't have any other left, so adding another silo of games will just be more difficult. I know that because some time ago I had a 3DS :D And recently, I had Nintendo Switch Online for a moment. Emulation is like a bottomless bag of Santa's gifts.
Yea gaming seems like that to me at the moment lol. The gift that keeps on giving.
I’ve managed to be really picky with what is emulated for me and what isn’t. So that should help with overwhelm. But I also want to see the newest innovations and story telling so how much I’ll complete I don’t know. But getting that nostalgia of playing the games I played when I was little with my friend has been nice. And spooky to be fair. Some odd muscle memory about secrets lol

I love emulating on the Deck. I've been across various devices for years now but I've found the Deck to be the best experience.

If any game should be emulated it's Metroid Prime Trilogy: I paid £88 for it on the Wii, only 30.000 copies were printed for Europe. Enjoy!

OMG I had the same with the Lion King on mega drive! Like how did I complete that game!? I am struggling to get to level 2. lol
