In March 2024 my love of gaming was re-ignited with the purchase of a steamdeck. Since then I have been obsessed with watching reviews, news, indie game content, listening to podcasts, etc. I recently shared some of my favourite podcasts in a conversation, so wanted to note them down and share them more widely.
Maybe you will share your favourites with me too?
I listen to all of these just on the iPhone podcast app, but have tried to include their main pages or podbean pages.
Gaming podcasts
Girls on Games - Weekly video game podcast with a dash of geek culture! The GoGCast features industry news, round table discussions and engaging interviews.
What I like is the conversational style. I am at a similar age to these ladies and love the random segways in the beginning of how to find a new washing machine. This may not be for everyone but their podcasts got me through a tough time and it is like listening to my friends.
Gaming in the wild - A podcast & YouTube channel about creative video games, made by John Rogers in Reykjavík, Iceland. I am a more highly strung individual with diagnosed severe anxiety disorder, but John talks calmly and passionately about video games and indie games. His content was such a good find for me and I love relaxing with a coffee and listening to his thoughts.
Triple Click - Kirk Hamilton, Maddy Myers, and Jason Schreier talk about video games and sometimes other things, too. This is a more recent find for me but I love the dynamic of these three and they are very knowledgeable. Always a great listen.
This week in Gaming - Whether you're a seasoned gamer, or just curious about Video Games in general - Join Naomi Kyle every week as she breaks down the latest in the world of Video Games, even if you're a total newbie! Expect the hottest gaming news, chats with industry experts and so much more!
These are great short interviews full of recent news and often with a co presenter. I appreciate the snappiness of the episodes with well presented content.
Pew Pew Bang Bang - Pew Pew Bang is a video game podcast where every episode is a slumber party. Four women from around the game industry talk games, stories, and life advice. This is part of the MinnMax podcast network.
This again is a more conversational style podcast - sometimes a bit long for me, but good for when I am doing some gardening or cleaning around the house to keep me going. Anyone else find chores so boring!? It only started in Feb 2025 so is still new and exploring many types of gaming topics.
Do you have any favourite podcasts you listen to on a regular basis? Even gaming adjacent? I have a few more to share in the future but these I listen to on a regular basis and they are current and being added to on a regular basis.
My Perfect Console is pretty good as well, especially if you love to hear discussions about games from the 80's and 90's (depending on the guests)
I will give these a try, thanks. I'm always interested in more diversity in what has historically been seen as a male-oriented pastime, I would love to hear some different viewpoints.
The one gaming podcast I would recommend (and is my favourite overall of the ones I listen to) is called Retronauts. It is a retro gaming podcast, but they consider "retro" to be at least 10 years old, so that is a lot of variety actually. I love their conversation style - a lot of them are from journalism, so they talk like talking to a small group of friends, yet have a vast level of experience to draw from and actually do their research so I get a lot of useful background information from them too.
