Game Journal: November 2024
A list of games I played on my steam deck in November with 2-3 line comments.
November was a bit eclectic and didn’t really go to “plan”. I ended up up travelling twice and once didn't take my steam deck with me as it was kind of for work. I am also glad I didn't because I actually went to bed at a reasonable time. The one game I played 15 mins of that is not mentioned is Oxenfree as I didn’t give it the time of day just yet. One for December. :)
Kingdom Two crowns
In Kingdom Two Crowns, players must work in the brand-new solo or co-op campaign mode to build their kingdom and secure it from the threat of the Greed. Experience new technology, units, enemies, mounts, and secrets in the next evolution of the award-winning micro strategy franchise!
This game completely grabbed me. The pixel art is beautiful and it is really nicely done. I liked the take on a strategy / management sim being side scrolling and 2D. There is a tonne of DLC free and paid for. I have only looked at one of them so far, but I am tempted by the paid for ones for my next big trip. The game mechanics are super easy and straight forward making it a great pick up and drop again game.
Brotato
Brotato is a top-down arena shooter roguelite where you play a potato wielding up to 6 weapons at a time to fight off hordes of aliens. Choose from a variety of traits and items to create unique builds and survive until help arrives.
This was a palette cleanser for me. A mindless shooter, or so I thought. There is a lot more strategy involved than I anticipated and the game is a lot bigger than I realised as well. I feel like this one is again one that I’ll pick up when I have 10-15 mins but no more time to invest. Regardless I have spent more than 5 hours on it already.
Supercat boy
Super Catboy is an action-packed platformer created in a high-bit pixel art style, combining the best elements of the golden 16-bit platformer era of the 90s with some ‘pawsome’ new mechanics! And let’s not forget; there’s plenty of CAT CONTENT!
What a random little game. I can’t remember buying this or seeing it in a review. How long to beat has this at just over the three hour mark and I needed something simple and quick to keep me going through the rough working week. This did the trick. Bar two places it was easy to progress, and it very much reminded me of playing games on my mega drive. It kind of is what it says on the tin, and doesn’t pretend to be more than that.
Salt and Sanctuary
Explore a haunting, punishing island in this stylized 2D action RPG. Salt and Sanctuary combines fast and brutal 2D combat with richly developed RPG mechanics in a cursed realm of forgotten cities, blood-soaked dungeons, and desecrated monuments.
I started this at the end of the month and haven’t gotten very far yet. This seems like a pretty game with interesting combat and the biggest skill tree I have ever seen. I am a bit overwhelmed. I have died a lot already but I might be getting the hang of it. The game has souls like vibes to me and I can’t wait to discover more.
Super Meat Boy
The infamous, tough-as-nails platformer comes to Steam with a playable Head Crab character (Steam-exclusive)!
I did spend 30-45 mins playing Super Meat Boy at the end of the month too. I see why it is so hard but also addictive and why people love it in general. Like Brotato and Downfall this game will surely spend a lot of time with me over the next few weeks / months to dip in and out of.
What did you play in November? Did you stick with spooky games or a mix of different genres? Maybe you played just one game or ten? Let’s talk about it.
Super Meat Boy was difficult. I hit my genre limits with it. But it looks and plays really well.
I am still working on Zelda, Echoes of Wisdom. I still really love it and having a great time with it. It’s less intense than Breath of Wind. 😊😊
