Game Journal: March 2025
A list of games I played on my steam deck or switch in March with 2-3 line comments.
Moonlighter
Moonlighter is an Action RPG with rogue-lite elements that demonstrates two sides of the coin – revealing everyday routines of Will, an adventurous shopkeeper that secretly dreams of becoming a hero.
Moonlighter was recommended to me by
most recently and prior to that by others too. It is all I wanted Dave the Diver to be. :D A bit of a roguelike game loop to gather materials for your shop that you build. There is a small bit of story but I am just having fun doing the dungeon crawling. I did find the fighting mechanics a bit clumsy at first bit I have probably been spoilt by the likes of Hades.Alan Wake
A Dark Presence stalks the small town of Bright Falls, pushing Alan Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save his love.
I have only played a tiny bit of this game, and I did not realise it was as scary as it is. I think once we have some more sunny sunday mornings I will be progressing this more. So far I like it but I wasn’t quite in the mood for spooky when I started it, so it needs to wait a little while.
Cookie Cutter: Overkill Edition
Fuelled by love but driven by rage, Cherry embarks on a blood-soaked quest for revenge, explores the massive Megastructure, and eviscerates the armies of Infornet in a best-in-class action-adventure that breaks tropes and bones.
I re-played Cookie Cutter on the switch to review the Overkill Edition. This added a lot more gameplay improvements as well as full voice over and extra quest. I really like this game and it runs well on the switch, which hopefully means it finds even more players.
Tunic
Explore a land filled with lost legends, ancient powers, and ferocious monsters in TUNIC, an isometric action game about a small fox on a big adventure.
After playing Moonlighter earlier in the months I really wanted to play Tunic. Something about the aesthetic, the fox with the sword and the dungeons. I haven’t played many hours of this yet as I started it at the end of the month but so far I like it. The music is also very chill and it seems like a ye oldee Zelda, Monument valley mix to me right now. More soon I expect.
Rainworld
You are a nomadic slugcat, both predator and prey in a broken ecosystem. Grab your spear and brave the industrial wastes, hunting enough food to survive, but be wary— other, bigger creatures have the same plan... and slugcats look delicious.
Technically I started this game last year in May or so, but I had barely played 20 minutes before losing over 45 hours to Hollow Knight. It didn’t have a chance to hold my attention. Now I am conflicted with this game. I like the cleverness behind it and the dev talks around its AI ecosystem are very good. I also like the art and that you are a slug cat. But so far we don’t get on. I am just not very good at it, even after 3 hours. We shall see how far I get this time round.
What did you play in March? Any new games? So many good ones came out! Let’s talk about it.
If you think Alan Wake 1 is spooky, wait till you see Alan Wake 2.
Just applied for a Rain World key. I think I want to play through the game and the dlc's and then review the whole package. I hope I enjoy it because the visuals and soundtracks are something ive loved from the outside looking in!
